The International Society for the Interdisciplinary Study of Symmetry, also known as the International Symmetry Society exists as a friendly framework for interdisciplinary discovery. Members come from the sciences and mathematics, the fine arts, and such disciplines as languages, philosophy, and computer science.
The Society is not a typical art/math group, but instead is committed to exploration grounded in both logical and intuitive insights inspired by symmetry. It is known for its openness, its unique nature, and profound discussions. It is also aggressively interdisciplinary, gathering researchers and artists from many fields and holding meetings in various countries around the world.
SIS-Symmetry has the 30th anniversary in 2019. This congress is held in Japan, Kanazawa, in this memorable year. Kanazawa is well-known for historical landscapes and for its lively activities in arts, crafts, and traditional culture, which have been developed since the Edo period and more recently extended by new manufacturing industries. Thus, a unique culture has been formed by the coexistence of symmetrical cultures of tradition and innovation.
This congress and exhibition will be organized in cooperation with SIS-Symmetry and Society for the Science on Form. In addition to particular research topics, we aim to discuss also "Tradition and Innovation in Symmetry - Katachi. (the Japanese concept of form, shape, etc.)
